How Many Rakats Are There in Isha Namaz
If you are unsure about the rakats of Isha prayer, you’re in the right place. Here, we will explain all the rakats of Isha along with their order.
How Many Rakats Are in Isha Namaz
Isha prayer is the night prayer and is one of the five obligatory (Farz) prayers in Islam. It is commonly referred to as a 4-rakat Farz prayer. After Isha, additional prayers such as Nafl Lail can also be offered.
The 17 rak‘ats of Isha prayer are as follows:
- 4 Sunnah (non-Muqaddah)
- 4 Farz
- 2 Sunnah (Muqaddah)
- 2 Nawafil
- 3 Witr
- 2 Nawafil
Details of Each Rakat:
- The first 4 Sunnahs of Isha are non-Muqaddah (low-emphasis sunnah). These are recommended but skipping them is not sinful, though performing them earns extra reward.
- The 4 Farz rak‘ats are mandatory and must be performed in all circumstances. Missing these intentionally is considered sinful.
- After Farz, 2 Sunnah rak‘ats are Muqaddah (high-emphasis sunnah) and should be performed regularly.
- 2 Nawafil rak‘ats follow, which are optional and performed according to personal choice.
- 3 Witr rak‘ats complete the prayer, with Dua Qunut recited in the last Witr rakat. Some people perform only 1 Witr, though 3 is recommended.
- Finally, 2 Nawafil rak‘ats can be offered.
Understanding Prayer Types
- Sunnah Mu‘aqqidah: Actions regularly performed by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Missing them without a valid reason is sinful.
- Non-Muqaddah Sunnah: Actions that were not performed regularly by the Prophet. Skipping them is not sinful, but performing them earns extra reward.
- Farz (Obligation): Compulsory duties; missing them intentionally is considered a major sin.
- Wajib: Obligatory but slightly less than Farz. Neglecting Wajib is sinful but does not count as disbelief.
This guide ensures you understand the full structure of Isha prayer and the importance of each rak‘at.
